November 18, 2015: Meet Habitat volunteer, Chris Burnikel!
Chris has been an enthusiastic volunteer and member of Habitat’s marketing committee for over a year now. Chris and other marketing committee members work to guide and develop Habitat’s marketing strategy, to design communications and marketing collateral, and to plan and promote events.
Chris first became interested in Habitat after taking an ‘alternative spring break’ during his senior year of college at the University of Pittsburgh, where he and a group of other students spent a week building with the New Castle County Habitat affiliate in Delaware. “I knew a little bit about HFH beforehand, but I didn't have a true grasp of the organization or mission until I experienced it for myself; then I became completely enamored with it,” says Chris. “Housing security is one of the most important things for a family to have, so the fact that HFH achieves that in a sustainable, empowering way is very compelling.”
Serving as the Corporate & Foundation specialist for the Neighborhood Academy, Chris has a strong background in nonprofit marketing and thus contributes valuable ideas and insights to the committee.
In his spare time, Chris also volunteers with the United Way's free tax-preparation program in the winter. His other interests involve movies, sports/exercising, reading, and “eating his way through Pittsburgh.”
A huge thank you to Chris for all his hard work!
