Welcome to the 2015 Summer Interns

May 20, 2015: Meet our summer interns Sarah, Rachel, and Jordan!

Sarah Schroeder- Family Services Intern

Sarah bio.jpgSarah Schroeder, 22, is our Family Services Intern.  She corresponds with families who inquire about the home repair or homeownership programs, and keeps inquiry and waitlist files up-to-date. Sarah studies Corporate Communications at Carlow University in Pittsburgh, and lives in Bethel Park. When asked what it means to be from Pittsburgh, Sarah said, “The best way I can describe being from Pittsburgh is having a sense community everywhere you go. To me, Pittsburgh is such a unique city, and I think that anyone from here wears a similar sense of pride. In terms of community, we come together effortlessly because we are so proud of our city, whether it be for a sporting event or raising money for charity.” Her passion for Pittsburgh shines through in the work that she does with us. She says, “Habitat's commitment to building hope within the community fits my career goals of establishing relationships with and serving the people of the city that I love. It is an honor to be a part of this organization."  Thanks for your hard work with our families this summer, Sarah!

Rachel Stalker-ReStore Marketing and Social Media Intern
Rachel bio.jpg

Rachel Stalker is the ReStore Marketing and Social Media Intern. She runs the online marketing and social media platforms for the Habitat ReStore, and works with in-store marketing as well. Rachel, 21, studies Business Administration, with a focus in Marketing, at Shenandoah University in Winchester, VA.  Rachel is very excited to be working at the ReStore, and to be serving in the Pittsburgh community. “To me, Pittsburghers are unlike any other people I have met. After living in Virginia for school, there is something about coming back to Pittsburgh, and being welcomed with open arms each time I return. Pittsburghers have an inherent trust, respect and love for each other, which is obvious to visitors to the city. I am excited to help Habitat for Humanity become more well-known and supported in Pittsburgh through the ReStore. The store creates an easy opportunity for community members to support Habitat’s projects in Pittsburgh.” Thanks for your help at the ReStore this summer, Rachel!

Jordan is helping to plan and contact sponsors for the Kids Triathlon Series fundraiser that takes place over the summer in South Park and North Park. He studies Political Science and Economics at the University of Pittsburgh, and lives in Baldwin.  Jordan says, “I take a great deal of pride in being a lifelong resident of the Pittsburgh area. When choosing a college, I always thought I would want to leave the state, however, I came to realize how much the city means to me, one of the main reasons I attended the University of Pittsburgh. Overall, I identify with the hard-working attitude and grit of Pittsburgh residents and workers as well as the pride they take in their sports teams, particularly my favorite team, the Pirates.” Jordan applied for this internship because he has always been interested in the non-profit sector and “wanted to see if it was something I enjoyed for potential future employment.” Thanks for your hard work with the Kids Triathlons this summer, Jordan!
