Habitat for Humanity is a unique organization in that its survival and welfare is based on you, the volunteer. Without dedicated, hardworking volunteer workers, our families' dreams of owning a sturdy, reliable home would never come true. You make Habitat for Humanity one of the largest, most beneficial non-profit organizations in existence. We have volunteer opportunities working directly on our construction jobsites or at our ReStore, for individuals and groups alike. Click on the links below to learn about getting involved as a Habitat volunteer!
Although volunteer time is a valuable asset, it still takes money to buy materials to build a house. We ask all individual volunteers to consider making a donation to our organization to pay for materials that will be used on that day. We have a suggested donation amount of $25.00 per volunteer, but it is not mandatory.
Bring your team, organization or school to one of our construction sites for a day of volunteering together and having fun—all while making an important contribution to Habitat’s mission of building homes in partnership with families in need. No prior construction experience is necessary.
Service builds are reserved for all non-corporate teams such as faith groups, social groups, nonprofits, and schools that wish to volunteer on a Habitat jobsite. It’s a great way to learn about the need for affordable housing in our community and gain valuable construction skills. All groups will be asked to raise a minimum of $100 per participant to have the opportunity to participate in a Build Day. In taking this step, your group has recognized the importance of providing a long-term solution to the affordable housing issues that the Pittsburgh community faces. Funds can be raised by individuals, companies, or through matching funds and other grants, and we’re happy to give you ideas and fundraising tools to help you succeed.
To learn more or to schedule your volunteer day, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator Sean Mann by email at email@example.com or by phone at 412-450-8520, ext. 11.
Why do we ask your team to donate?
Volunteers are the lifeblood of our organization, but our homes and repair projects cannot be completed efficiently without funding, as well. Individual and group contributions are our largest source of funding for these projects. Your donation will help us ensure that we are providing affordable homes and repairs to as many families as possible right here in the Greater Pittsburgh area.
Each year organizations partner with us by providing all of the resources and funding necessary to complete repair projects and entire home builds. Sponsors also have the opportunity to work on the construction sites to see the impact of their donations first-hand.

Habitat events offer a unique opportunity for sponsors to engage in their communities in an exceedingly visible way and all proceeds go towards putting local families in decent, affordable homes. Sponsor benefits vary by event. Annual events include:

All volunteers with the Habitat for Humanity of Greater Pittsburgh affiliate are checked against a sex offender database, including all board members, staff, key volunteers, and potential homeowners. It is our policy not to isolate volunteers either in the ReStore facility or on local job site locations. This policy has been in effect at the greater Pittsburgh affiliate since October, 2007. New hire employees undergo criminal background checks, reference checks, and drug testing.
