July 14, 2015: July brings personnel changes to the Habitat office.
The month of July holds multiple personnel changes around the Habitat office.
Fred Vey served Habitat for five years, first as the Staff Accountant and then as the Accounting Manager. Official responsibilities included preparation of annual budgets, financial analyses, projections, statements, and reports. Fred coordinated various accounting functions such as cash control, credit and collection management.
Apart from official responsibilities, Fred provided gardening advice, water cooler management, and popcorn provision. Though he will be missed in the office, we wish him all the best in retirement!
Leah Baldwin joins the office staff in a part-time position as the Staff Accountant. Leah, a native Ohioan, worked as a CPA at Yeo & Yeo in Kalamazoo, Michigan, before coming to Pittsburgh in September of 2013 with her husband, Eric. She spent the next two years as a stay-at-home mom, mothering her two sons, Elliot (3) and Simon (6 months).
Habitat’s mission specifically strikes a chord with Leah and she is looking forward to working at an organization whose mission she supports. She appreciates the Habitat approach that is an empowering framework for helping people out of poverty.
Derek Morris, previously Habitat’s Volunteer Coordinator, moved into a new role as the Community Engagement Manager. We foresee Derek using his gifts in this role to further the Habitat mission by increasing Habitat’s visibility in Pittsburgh and by advocating for affordable housing in his various networks.
