August 15, 2015: 250 young athletes ages 7-15 participated in the 15th annual Kids Triathlon in North Park.
The kids swam, biked, and ran to raise money for Habitat for Humanity of Greater Pittsburgh’s local affordable housing programs. This race was the second of the series—the first race was held in South Park on July18th. With support from corporate sponsors, local businesses, and community members, the Kids Triathlon Series was able to raise over $80,000 for Habitat for Humanity of Greater Pittsburgh this summer. Over the pasts 15 years, the series has brought in over $800,000 in funds for Habitat.
Habitat would like to give a special thanks to the sponsors who helped make this day a success, and continue to support the work of Habitat in the Greater Pittsburgh area:
Presenting Sponsor: Peoples Natural Gas
Premier Sponsors: Duquesne Light, FHL Bank, & W.G. Tomko
Platinum Sponsor: Giant Eagle
Gold Sponsors: Comcast & Howard Hanna

Habitat would also like to thank the Allegheny County Parks Department, Kossman Development Company, Level-Interactive, Pro Bikes, Bruster’s Ice Cream, PennDOT, the Pittsburgh Shirt Company, and Trader Joe’s for their assistance.
Along with the kids who participated in the event and the parents who came to cheer them on, 120 volunteers from the community and local businesses spent their Saturday morning at North Park, helping to ensure that each athlete had a safe and positive experience. Habitat extends many thanks to the individual volunteers and volunteer groups who came from Eat N Park, Peoples Natural Gas, Duquesne Light, GNC, Accredo, Mascaro Construction, Citizens Bank, the Phi Beta Sigma fraternity, and the Habitat for Humanity staff. Thank you also to Congressman Keith Rothfus who helped kick-off the race and distributed congressional certificates of service to all the athletes.
Trophies were awarded to the top three boys and girls in each age group, and each participant was presented with a medal at the finish line. The results of the Triathlon, broken down by age, can be viewed at http://www.runhigh.com/2015RESULTS/R081515AA.html. Habitat would also like to congratulate Delaney and Jocelyn Rich, the top two fundraisers among the Kids Triathlon participants. For their efforts, the girls won a gift card to pick out a new bike from a local Pro Bikes store.
Thanks to all who participated in and supported this year’s Kids Triathlon Series—we hope to see you again at next year’s races!
