A Successful 14th Annual Kids Triathlon

August 13, 2014: Young athletes from Southwestern Pennsylvania and beyond competed in Habitat’s 14th annual Kids Triathlon.

Two races were held: the first occurred in South Park on July 19th and the second occurred in North Park on August 9th. Over 500 young athletes competed in these event where they swam, biked, and ran while their families and 300 volunteers cheered them on to the finish line. The Kids Triathlon Series raised over $73,000 for Habitat's local affordable housing programs. Since its inception fourteen years ago by a group of Habitat supporters and US Congressman Tim Murphy, the Kids Triathlon Series has raised over $750,000 for affordable housing and has helped instill the value of community service in over 5,000 young participants.

The Kids Triathlon Series and Habitat’s affordable housing programs were made possible by many community partners. Carolyn McKinney, Vice President of Human Resources at presenting sponsor Peoples Natural Gas confirms, “Peoples has been an avid supporter of Habitat for Humanity Greater Pittsburgh and its annual Kids Triathlon for a number of years and a significant number of our employees volunteer at the event.  Many Triathlon participants and Habitat program families are Peoples customers and we are committed to supporting community partnerships that directly affect our customers.”
