More Habitat Homes on the Way in Duquesne!

The first of two ranch-style houses we are building at the corner of Karl Avenue and Wilmot Street in Duquesne is rapidly taking shape.   Volunteers began building on May 15 and in less than a month's time the first structure had its roof, siding, and doors and windows installed.

In coming weeks we'll break ground on the second house.  Volunteers will continue to work on both projects throughout the summer.

GMAC is the primary financial sponsor of the first house. In addition to providing the funds that make the whole project possible, the company has also supplied scores of volunteers and hundreds of volunteer meals.

Wells Fargo has also helped out with volunteers and is making a substantial donation towards construction of the second house.

Additional groups who've supplied volunteers include Aramark, Auto Trader magazine, Electrolux, St. Clair of Assisi Parish in Clairton, and First Lutheran Church of Pittsburgh. Century Heritage F.C.U. of West Mifflin recently bought breakfast and lunch for the entire jobsite.

So far this year, four families have moved into four recently built or refurbished Habitat houses.  In May, Kelli Thrower and her family moved into their new house on Wylie Avenue in the Hill District.  In March, Marcy Perrin and her son moved into their new home on Kennedy Avenue in Duquesne.  That same month, Tammy Brown closed on her family's new home, an existing structure on Corey Avenue in Braddock that Habitat volunteers helped remodel, and Jonathan and Anita Lang moved with their young daughter into a new ranch-style home on Greeley Avenue in Etna.
